this post has been on my mind since the holidays. catching up on my RSS feeds (not really) and just spending too much time on the internet and thinking about the world’s problems but not doing anything about them because it was officially my winter break… i was walking down the venice boardwalk when my wife and i saw this (andy forgive the size of the image, once again it was done consciously as the thumbnail does not reflect adequately the size of this statement in my mind in the guise of the following context):
i tried to think of how someone would be compelled to tag that, especially over some art work. unfortunately my mind was quickly barraged with images of happenings all over the world that soon clarified how easy these words could be put together to communicate this concept.

and of course the most disgusting large scale story of the year so far… the crisis in gaza. as if there can be any justification to this recent human tragedy? these people seem to think… wait no scratch that… BELIEVE there is:
i have procrastinated on writing about this because every time i think about it, the words spray painted along that venice wall creep up like a ghost, ,like some imminent cosmic message that somehow was intercepted, not really meant for us to hear… lie some racist joke you over hear a co-worker spouting in the staff lounge that was not intended to offend you but was also not meant for you to hear as well. it did and you did. there are so many things that lend credence to these hateful and pessimistic words…
on a day like today, on the eve of a day like tomorrow… i have a dream that there will be less instances to qualify those words… that my optimism will help me to realize that words are what you make them. i promise, today as we honor MLK, to try and have my words focus more on the light that is radiating all over, the light of humanity that inspires my optimism… and that i will continue to work towards a world where not so many people feel the sentiment of those words, because there are more reasons for them to change their mind. i have dreams too…
